The first thing that drew me to the Rimmel Stay Matte Liquid Lip Colours was the fabulous variety of shades they had on offer. Matte lipstick is all the rage at the moment and I wanted to jump on that bandwagon without buying an in-your-face lip colour. It might be party season, but I still want to look natural!
That’s why the Rimmel Stay Matte collection was so appealing. It’s full of soft pink shades and deep plums (which tend to compliment my fair skin and hair) and I didn’t have to worry about overdoing it. Having said that, they also make a Blue Iris variety – which I imagine would look amazing on a darker skin tone.
Which Shade of Rimmel Stay Matte Liquid Lip Colour did I buy?
I passed on the Blue Iris and decided to buy two different shades from either side of the spectrum. I got the ‘Pink Blush‘ and the ‘Plum This Show‘. Each one cost £5.99. I also purchased the Rimmel Lip Lock because it was recommended for keeping them in place.
What was the quality like?
Both of the pigments are quite strong and they certainly deliver on the matte effect. One thing I will say is that the Pink Blush is very pink. While that may seem a little obvious, it doesn’t look quite as pink from the outside of the container. I thought it would be a nude-pink like Charlotte Tilbury Pillow Talk but actually it’s a real bubblegum pink. To be honest, this had limited what I can wear it with. However, with the right look it’s quite a flattering lipstick for my pale skin.
The Plum This Show is a really rich plum colour which looks very vampish. It’s perfect for an evening out but a touch too severe for wearing during the day. I’d recommend wearing it with a lip liner because this is not a colour you want to be applying outside of the lines!
Both products felt nice and silky to wear and they haven’t given me any problem dry lips (which tends to be an issue with me and matte lip colours). My only negative comment from a quality perspective is that they don’t smell all that great. They’re just a touch too
How long does Rimmel Stay Matte Liquid Lip Colour last?
The Rimmel Liquid Lip Colour does seem to stay on for quite a while by staining your lips. However, to make it last for hours you’ll probably want to purchase the Rimmel Lip Lock as well. This is a clear liquid that you paint on top of your lips to seal the colour in. On the whole, it works very well, and keeps the colour on even if you’re out drinking & eating. I have noticed that the plum tends to stay on longer than the Pink Blush, whether you’re using the Lip Lock or not.
