Where to Eat in Antigua
The Caribbean island of Antigua is unrivalled in beauty and hospitality. With its azure seas and white sands, luxury yachts and sun-dappled terraces, there are few places in the world as relaxing as this tropical destination. But if you’re anything like me the first thing you’ll want to know when when you arrive is where you should eat. So, here are my personal recommendations for restaurants to book when you first arrive in Antigua.
The Cove Restaurant
Uniquely situated on a cliff top, the Cove Restaurant fuses Caribbean and French cuisine. As you arrive at the Cove Restaurant, you’re greeted by flaming torches and a dramatic entrance leading onto a candlelit hall. Once inside, you can savour breathtaking views of the Caribbean Sea and enjoy dishes such as shrimp, lobster thermidor (season dependent), snapper and sirloin steak. This isn’t the most affordable restaurant on the list (mains start from 28 USD) but it does provide a beautiful ambience and makes for a romantic date destination. www.bluewaters.net/dining/
Sheer Rocks is arguably the most picturesque restaurant in all of Antigua. On a clear evening guests can enjoy unrivalled views of the sunset over the island of Montserrat and the relaxed, romantic vibe makes it an ideal restaurant for honeymooners. The food here is fabulous and during our visit we sampled dishes from the a la carte menu, including a gorgeous Seared King Scallops with Sticky Pork Belly. We also sipped on cocktails from their extensive drinks list and watched flying fish dart out of the ocean below as our meals were brought to the table. www.sheer-rocks.com
Situated on the stunning Pigeon Beach, Catherine’s Cafe serves classical French cuisine with Provence-style influences. This bougie cafe uses only the best quality local ingredients and their classically trained chefs refresh their menus on a regular basis. Head here on a lunchtime for French tartines (designed to share), the best gin & tonics on the island and a refined but laid back sun-dappled setting. www.catherines-cafe.com
This beautifully decorated Italian restaurant is located in the Jolly Harbour resort. Not only is the ambience here absolutely stunning, but the whole team ooze charm and knowledge of their trade. The food is affordable (but by no means cheap) and the portions are very hearty. I recommend asking to hear the specials during your visit, as there’s always something new to enjoy. Head here with family or friends for homemade pastas, fresh seafood, cold cuts and great cocktails. facebook.com/BasilicoRestaurantAntigua
